Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is diving its toes into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The latest project - dubbed the Space Key - is a piece of art made by a collaboration with an unknown artist. The one-of-a-kind NFT is a tangible item which connects to a unique digital artwork that can be accessed via an QR code printed on the back. The project is limited and will be auctioned off in the next few weeks.

The Space Key is made of carbon composite material which Lamborghini as part of a research project in 2019 sent to the International Space Station. After returning to earth carbon fiber was fashioned into this distinctive artwork. The physical piece includes an NFT serial code that links to the digital image via QR code printed on the back.

NFTs, for those who are not familiar are unique identifiers that are recorded on a distributed ledger of the blockchain and connected to digital assets such as a photograph or video, song or any other kind of record. This allows owners to verify the authenticity, scarcity and the traceability of their tokens on the internet.

Lamborghini takes this unique approach to art a step further by collaborating with NFT PRO, white label NFT solution for business. In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will release details about this exciting venture. This includes the name of the artists who are unknown and a timeline for auction.

The physical element of Space Key

After a series of social media posts hinting at something space-related, the Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has entered the world of non-fungible (NFT) tokens with an exclusive project named Space Key. The NFT was created in collaboration with an unknown artist and will be auctioned in a few short weeks.  www.thekeylab.co.uk  is a piece made of advanced carbon fibre composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part a research project. Carbon fiber was 3D printed for the base of every Space Key. Each Space Key is linked to an exclusive digital artwork by way of an QR code. Only five Space Keys have been produced.

NFTs are unique identifiers that are recorded on distributed ledgers such as the Blockchain and tied to digital assets like pictures. They're a hot topic among people with more money than So it was only a matter time before an automaker decided to cash in on the trend.

Space Key is made up of five parts. It was developed by using a carbon fiber composite, which was sent to the ISS back in 2019. Each NFT will be linked with an exclusive digital artwork by the same artist via a QR code printed on the backside of the carbon fiber element. More details will be revealed in the coming days and weeks, including the artist's name along with the digital artwork and how to purchase one of the five Space Keys.

The digital artwork

After weeks of social media posts hinting at it, a prestigious car manufacturer Lamborghini has finally announced its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. The Space Key is a collection of five physical items that will unlock a special digital art by the yet to be identified artist. It was created in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the "collector's work" is limited to only five units and will soon be auctioned off.

At the center of each Space Key is a block made of a high-tech carbon fire composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research program. After returning to Earth, the block was engraved with a QR code that links to the digital element within the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that occurs at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of the five images was taken by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner used a balloon equipped with a camera to capture each of the individual images, that were then merged to create the final image. The result is an out of this world photograph that captures both the beauty of the Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic picture of the car erupting from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, however the exact date and location of the auction haven't yet been confirmed yet.
